Who will make the Sky Bet League Two play-offs?

Published

on

Sky Bet League Two has been one of the tightest leagues all season and one part of the league that has been changing all season are the play-off places.

Portsmouth

With Northampton promoted and it looking very unlikely that Oxford, Bristol Rovers, Accrington, Plymouth or Portsmouth will drop out of the top seven, seventh place is very much up for grabs.

The teams fighting for that spot are AFC Wimbledon, Wycombe Wanderers, Exeter City, Carlisle United, Leyton Orient and Cambridge United. Just three points separates these teams and with 15 points left to play for, it’s all to play for.

Current Standings:

7th – AFC Wimbledon – Pts: 62

8th – Wycombe – Pts: 62

9th – Exeter – Pts: 62

10th – Carlisle – Pts: 60

11th – Leyton Orient – Pts: 60

12th – Cambridge – Pts: 59

Prediction:

Saturday 16th April

AFC Wimbledon v Crawley – HOME WIN

Cambridge v Carlisle – DRAW

Exeter v Northampton – DRAW

Orient v Dagenham – HOME WIN

Wycombe v Barnet – HOME WIN

This weekend will provide a massive face off between Cambridge and Carlisle, these are two sides who have both been inconsistent and I think this will end in a draw. Orient, Wycombe and Wimbledon face beatable opposition at home but Exeter host recently promoted Northampton. This will be a tough game for the Grecians but I expect them to get at least a draw out of it.

Tuesday 19th April

Cambridge v Morecambe – HOME WIN

Carlisle v Luton – HOME WIN

Dagenham v Wimbledon – AWAY WIN

Exeter v Mansfield – HOME WIN

Orient v Plymouth – DRAW

Wycombe v Yeovil – HOME WIN

In this midweek round of fixtures I expect all the playoff challengers to win their respective games apart from Orient who face promotion chasing Plymouth, both sides are out of form and need a win, unfortunately for them I believe it will end in a tie.

Saturday 23rd April

Wimbledon v Orient – AWAY WIN

Bristol Rovers v Exeter – HOME WIN

Crawley v Carlisle – DRAW

Notts County v Cambridge – DRAW

Portsmouth v Wycombe – HOME WIN

On this occasion I think Orient will be the only side to pick up all 3 points with a vital win in the crunch match at Kingsmeadow, with Orient behind going into this week I think they know they have to win it or it’s over.

Tuesday 26th April

Wimbledon v Portsmouth – DRAW

The Dons play their game in hand on this night and it will be a tough one for them against a side who don’t lose very often. At this stage they still hold 7th spot and a draw won’t do them too much harm.

Saturday 30th April

Cambridge v Plymouth – DRAW

Carlisle v Oxford – DRAW

Exeter v Morecambe – HOME WIN

Orient v Mansfield – HOME WIN

Stevenage v Wimbledon – AWAY WIN

Wycombe v Accrington – AWAY WIN

For Carlisle, Cambridge and Wycombe, they all face tough games at home in the penultimate week of fixtures. I don’t see any of them coming out on top, so Orient, Exeter and Wimbledon should see it through so that they are the only ones in contention going into the final weekend.

Saturday 7th April

Wimbledon v Newport – HOME WIN

Luton v Exeter – AWAY WIN

Yeovil v Orient – AWAY WIN

On the final day I believe the only ones left fighting will all get wins meaning AFC Wimbledon should finish in the final playoff place with a win at home to Exeter.

Predicted Final Standings:

7th – Wimbledon – Pts: 75

8th – Orient – Pts: 73

9th – Exeter – Pts: 72

10th – Carlisle – Pts: 69

11th – Wycombe – Pts: 68

12th – Cambridge – Pts: 66
