After the dismissal of Mark Cooper last week and the 2-1 loss to Oldham Athletic last night, things are not getting any better at the County Ground. That loss means that Swindon are without a win since the start of September.

Who will be the next Swindon boss?
Who will be the next Swindon boss?

The Robins dropped into the relegation zone after last night’s defeat and really need someone to lift their spirits.

Chairman, Lee Power who has taken temporary charge of the first team, says he will start speaking to potential new managers today after drawing up a five-man shortlist for the job.

So who is the man to change Swindon’s fortunes?

The Bookie’s odds on favourite – Martin Ling

Rumours have been circling at the start of this week that the former Swindon Town player could be thrown back into the ring. Ling has not been in management since leaving Torquay United in the summer of 2013, when he took time out for depression before being controversially sacked.

However, the 49-year-old could be ready to step back into management and his links with Town could make it the perfect role.

Shaun Derry

Shaun Derry was reportedly at the County Ground to watch last night’s game, which has sparked a strong interest.

Gary Johnson

Reports have shown that Swindon are set to make an approach for Gary Johnson. The Cheltenham boss couldn’t save the Gloucestershire side last year after they were relegated from League two into the Conference.

Gary could be an excellent candidate for the job and has a great track record, when he was in charge of Bristol City.

Gus Poyet

As soon as Mark Cooper was sacked, one of the early front runners to take over was Gus Poyet who was the assistant at the County ground in 2006.

However, the Swindon Chairman has ruled the former Sunderland boss out of contention. Whether Poyet will drop into League One after his spell with Sunderland remains to be seen.

Tim Sherwood

The under-fire Aston Villa manager has been under immense pressure over the last two weeks after five losses in a row for the Midlands club. Tim has emerged as a shock contender for the Swindon Town post if Villa fail to deliver a win at Swansea on Saturday, which could seal with fate at the Premier League side.
