After a tenth-place finish in the 2016/17 campaign, West Bromwich Albion were looking to strengthen to their side to improve the following year.

Tony Pulis would start the following season continuing in his role as manager, hoping to maintain their top-half domination in campaigns gone by.

Six summer signings were made permanently ahead of the 2017/18 Premier League season to ensure that happened once more.

Two additional players arrived on loan for the season one being Grzegorz Krychowiak from Paris Saint-Germain – in one surprise coup, the other was signed on July 17, 2017, ahead of a gruelling top-flight campaign.

Ahmed Hegazi was signed on a season-long loan from Saudi Arabian side Al Ahly.

There was plenty of reaction to the addition of the defender few had heard about, and it was a resounding response from some of the Baggies’ supporters.

His loan was made permanent just before the January 2018 transfer window opened and was confirmed when it had, despite only winning two tames – the first two of the season – before agreeing to terms.

West Brom would end up seeing Pulis sacked, and Darren Moore appointed despite relegation to the Championship being confirmed.

Some of the Baggies’ supporters had never heard of the 28-year-old when he arrived at the Hawthorns in the summer of 2017 but having had a storming season during his first full year under a permanent contract at the club; they know who he is now all too well, now.

One of the best defenders in the Championship, he is showing the fans who were not familiar with him with a tepid welcome that he is every bit worth their praise now after a string of impressive individual performances.
