‘Who needs Rooney?’ – These Derby fans react to contribution of player who was ‘superb’ in Forest draw

It was a better night for Derby County on Friday, as they avoided defeat for just the second time in seven league games this season, playing out a 1-1 draw with local rivals Nottingham Forest at The City Ground.

The Rams took the lead midway through the first half, when Martyn Waghorn’s stunning free kick cannoned off the underside of the crossbar and into the roof of Brice Samba’s net.

Forest equalised early in the second half however, when Lyle Taylor netted his first goal for the club, turning in from close range after a scramble in the Derby area from a corner, before Kamil Jozwiak had a second for the Rams ruled out for a controversial offside.

But despite the frustration of being forced to settle for a point against their rivals, the goal, and performance, of Waghorn was something of a positive for Phillip Cocu’s side, with the striker named Man of the Match by broadcaster Sky Sports.

Perhaps not surprisingly, there were also plenty of Derby fans keen to pay tribute to Waghorn for his performance on Friday night, as they took to Twitter to react to the match.

Here, we take a look at what some of those Rams supporters had to say about the 30-year-old.
