Oldham Athletic have appointed Laurent Banide as their new manager for next season, with the 51-year-old set for his first taste of English football.

Labide has spent much of his recent managerial career in the Middle East, with his most recent job with Umm Salal SC in Qatar, however has been in charge of Monaco in the past.

Nevertheless, it's a bold move from erratic Latics owner Abdallah Lemsagam by handing the job to someone who has no experience in the English lower leagues.

Former Manchester United man Paul Scholes was in charge for a short spell last season as the side finished 14th in League Two and he was said to be unhappy about interference from above before leaving after just 31 days.

And, many supporters can't see this working out well at all, with the reaction almost all negative following Labide's surprise appointment.
