Leeds United sealed their third signing of the transfer window on Monday following the arrival of striker Jean-Kevin Augustin.
Augustin has followed goalkeeper Elia Caprile and winger Ian Poveda, who both joined the Whites last week, to Elland Road and after the signing of the forward, some fans may be hoping United’s transfer business isn’t quite over.
Despite Marcelo Bielsa saying the Whites won’t be making anymore January additions, the club have still been linked with further moves before Friday’s deadline.
One of those who has been linked with a move to the Whites is 22-year-old Saint-Etienne defender Harold Moukoudi, with French newspaper L’Equipe reporting United among a handful of English clubs monitoring the defender.
Moukoudi had spells with French clubs US Nogent and US Chantilly before arriving at Le Havre in 2012, where he would go on to feature regularly for their second side between 2015-2017.
The defender would make his full debut for the Ligue 2 side in 2017 and go on to make 63 appearances for the side in the French second division, between 2017-2019.
In August 2018 the Daily Mail reported that West Ham United were lining up a £10M bid for the centre-back, a bid that never came to fruition.
In January 2019, Made in Foot magazine reported that West Ham, Aston Villa, Napoli and Borussia Dortmund were all looking to secure the defender’s signature.
Despite reports, Moukoudi would remain at Le Havre for the remainder of the 2018-2019 season helping the side finish seventh in Ligue 2.
After making 63 appearances and scoring six goals for the club, Moukoudi would leave for Ligue 1 in the summer, joining fellow French side Saint-Etienne.
The 22-year-old has so far made 11 appearances for Les Verts (The Greens) with the side sitting 15th in France’s top tier.
Although winning 18 caps at various youth levels for France, Moukoudi made his full international debut for Cameroon in a 0-0 draw with Tunisia in October.
Although Marcelo Bielsa has suggested Leeds’ transfer business is over, many wouldn’t grumble should a centre-back arrive at Elland Road before Thursday’s deadline.
United have only Liam Cooper and Ben White as their central defenders with Gaetano Berardi providing respectable cover when needed, but it would help put minds at ease should United bring in further cover.
L’Equipe also reported that Leeds face competition for Moukoudi’s signature from Derby County, Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion, suggesting he is a sought after figure.
This potential transfer is certainly one to watch over the coming days and could be another big coup should the Whites pull it off.
