Fleetwood Town have recently been linked with a move for Crystal Palace midfielder Nya Kirby according to journalist Alan Nixon.

Kirby has been with Crystal Palace since 2017, after previously being on the books with Tottenham Hotspur during his youth career.

The youngster is yet to make a senior appearance for the Eagles though, and it seems as though they're willing to sanction a loan deal for the midfielder in the near future.

The 19-year-old spent last year's campaign on loan with League One side Blackpool, where he made 11 appearances in total for the Tangerines, scoring once and being on hand to provide three assists.

Blackpool finished tenth in League One in the 2018/19 season, with Kirby playing his part in that relatively strong season under the management of Terry McPhillips.

Kirby will be eager to make a name for himself out on loan again this season, and a move to Fleetwood Town could be the ideal opportunity for the midfielder to do just that.

Joey Barton's side are currently sat 11th in the League One table, and are seemingly keen to add strength in depth to their squad as they look to win promotion into the Championship this term.

If Kirby was to sign for the Fishermen, then it's likely he'll be challenging the likes of Glenn Whelan and Paul Coutts for their starting spot in Barton's squad each week.

If the midfielder can replicate the performances shown at Blackpool last season, then he could play a starring role in Fleetwood' promotion bid this season.

For any young player, you're going to be wanting to make a name for yourself, and this is exactly what will be the case for Kirby in the second-half of this year's campaign.

Kirby still has over two years to run on his current deal with Crystal Palace, so it's clear to see that key figures at Selhurst Park rate him highly.

With just two days remaining of the January transfer window though, Fleetwood will be hoping they can get this deal for the Eagles youngster over the line at the earliest of opportunities.
