Birmingham City and QPR have been linked with appointing John Herdman as the club’s new manager.

While Lee Bowyer remains in charge of the Blues for the moment, the Sun has reported that the club is interested in appointing Herdman as his potential replacement.

The 46-year old is currently the manager of the Canadian Men’s national team, having taken over the team in 2018.

Herdman has had a very successful time in charge of the Maple Leaf's, having recently guided the team to their first World Cup qualification since 1986.

The Canadian side’s standing in the world rankings has also significantly improved during his tenure.

Their ranking reached as high as 33rd in the world as recently as February of earlier this year.

It remains to be seen whether a move to the Championship would stop Herdman from taking charge of the team in Qatar later this year.

However, it must surely be a big factor in whether he is a viable candidate for any position within Birmingham, as there is no doubt that he would prefer to take charge of the country at a World Cup.

Herdman’s previous experience is also at national football level, having managed the Canadian Women’s side from 2011 to 2018.

During his time in charge of the women’s side, the Briton led the team to two Bronze medal finishes at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics respectively.

The Durham-born coach also managed the New Zealand Women’s national team from 2006 to 2011.

In that time, he managed the team to two World Cup qualifications and also brought the country to the Beijing Olympics of 2008.
