Nottingham Forest have enjoyed a magnificent start to the season under Sabri Lamouchi and they look as though they could finally be genuine promotion contenders.

However, there is obviously a long way to go and a lot can change, with the January window always crucial to a side with the ambition of reaching the Premier League.

And, it appears the Reds are preparing to be active on that front, with Chelsea's Billy Gilmour linked with a move to the City Ground on a temporary basis.

Here we profile the 18-year-old Scotsman and look at what he could offer Forest.

Firstly, a technical midfielder, Gilmour is very good in possession and he has revealed that Cesc Fabregas is his idol and someone he tries to model his game on.

That prompted the World Cup winning Spaniard to single out the youngster for praise when he starred on his full debut against a thrashing of Grimsby in the League Cup last month.

But, such displays shouldn't be a surprise, with the midfielder someone that Chelsea have really high hopes for.

They signed Gilmour as a 15-year-old from Rangers in a deal that was worth an initial £500,000, a fairly hefty fee for someone at that age.

Despite his young years, he had already featured for the U20 side in Glasgow and was training with the first-team but they couldn't convince him to turn down a move to Stamford Bridge.

Unsurprisingly, the youngster has been a regular in the Scotland youth teams over the years and currently stars for the U21 side and senior honours seem inevitable.

With Frank Lampard now in charge of Chelsea, Gilmour will see a pathway to the first-team but he knows that he is a long way from that level yet, with a loan seemingly the next step in his development.

His quality is clear to see and bringing in the midfielder could be a deal that works out for all parties.
