Lincoln City rounded off their EFL Trophy group stage campaign with a penalty shoot-out victory over Manchester City U21s at Cincil Bank on Tuesday evening.

Michael Appleton's side, going great guns in League One this term. had already booked their place in the knockout stages of the competition following wins against Scunthorpe United and Mansfield, before defeating City's youngsters to extend their unbeaten run.

Harry Anderson's third goal this term looked enough for the Imps to win the game in 90 minutes, but an 88th-minute equaliser from Keyendrah Simmonds sent the game straight to spot-kicks.

Despite James Jones' missing from 12-yards, all of Lincoln's other takers were successful from 12-yards and following two City misses, Appleton's men progressed 4-3 winners.
