"Oh I do love playing away" was the phrase uttered by Soccer AM's much travelled away-day lover Frankie Fryer, and the 2014/15 season certainly proved that, with away crowds for the season totalling 1.4 million last season.

The average away support hit 847, a rise of 1% from the 2013/14 season, showing that following your team away really is on the up. Figures issued by the Football League also revealed that the away support in the Championship was 1400, League One was 668 and League Two 473, highlighting the commitment football supporters make to follow their team the length and breadth of the country.

But which team are the best supported away from home in the Championship?

Is it Leeds? Arguably regarded as the biggest club outside of the top flight, Leeds's away following doesn't disappoint. The Whites's average away support last season totalled   2,274 fanatics.  Leeds United took 6,839 supporters to Blackburn Rovers, which is an astonishing show of support, with Leeds situated an hour and a half from Ewood Park.

Or Boro? The Teesiders can also stake a claim to being the best supported club outside the Premier League. They come in 2nd behind Leeds in the highest average away support in the Championship, with 2,237 hardy souls travelling(usually South!) to watch Aitor Karanka's team.
