Carlton Palmer has said that Sheffield Wednesday need to add in several areas this summer if they are to be competitive next year in Sky Bet League One, speaking to Football League World exclusively.

The Owls are heading back to the third tier for the first time in several seasons and it seems as though the reset button has been hit with a number of players moving on already and more set to follow.

Indeed, a new-look squad will surely be in place by August and Darren Moore is the man tasked with overseeing the rebuild.

And, for Carlton Palmer, there are several positions that need work at the moment in terms of new faces coming in.

"Well, where do you start? There are several positions that need to be replaced," Palmer said to Football League World exclusively.

"To be fair to [Darren Moore,] he's got a blank piece of paper after seeing the players that they've got rid of, they've got rid of near enough an entire first team.

"But it's then what he's got available, who he can get in on loan, and what money they can pay in wages.

"What he needs is a group of lads to get together and fight for the club and fight for him and that's one thing that has been lacking at Sheffield Wednesday. There's been no leadership there from the chairman onwards."

The question is, of course, whether or not Sheffield Wednesday can really push the boat out in terms of trying to sign new players.

Indeed, there's a general feeling that they are going to have to be frugal this summer and scour the loan and free-agent market to really boost the squad, so we'll have to see what sort of business Darren Moore and the recruitment team can do.

If he can get a competitive squad together and challenge at the right end next season, he'll certainly deserve massive credit.
