Sir Alex Ferguson’s last game in charge of Manchester United ended in a draw as West Bromwich Albion earned a 5-5 draw with the eventual league champions of the 2012/2013 season.
It was the Scottish manager’s 1,500th game in charge of the Red Devils and it proved to be his final one after announcing his retirement earlier in the season.
The champions went 3-0 up at the Hawthorns thanks to goals from Shinja Kagawa, Jonas Olsson’s own goal and Alexander Buttner’s superb finish.
James Morrison reduced the deficit for the Baggies and it was then Chelsea loanee Romelu Lukaku who made it 3-2.
Robin van Persie was not going to allow the home side back into the game that easily though as he scored a fourth for United – before Mexican striker Javier Hernandez made the score line a resounding 5-2.
But, Ferguson’s side took their foot of the pedal and allowed the Baggies back into the game as Lukaku scored two more goals and Youssouf Mulumbu struck to dramatically rescue a point for the Midlands based side.
Despite the crazy finish to the game, United ended the season 11 points clear of Manchester City and were crowned champions.
