Sheffield Wednesday are preparing to host Manchester City in the FA Cup tonight looking to spring a shock, much like when they welcomed Arsenal to Hillsborough back in October 2015 in the League Cup, triumphing 3-0.
The Owls have seen their season crumble in recent months after a woeful run of form where they have won just two games in 2020, slipping to eight points outside the play-offs and looking further and further off the pace by the week.
Their last result was a gutting 3-1 defeat at home to Derby County where they found themselves three goals down after half an hour after a string of calamities in their defensive setup, which wouldn’t be the ideal way to prepare for one of the most dangerous attacking sides in Europe as Man City make the trip to Hillsborough.
Pep Guardiola’s men could be on for retaining both domestic cups after their Carabao Cup win over Aston Villa at the weekend. However, they will be facing a stern Sheffield Wednesday side that have already impressed in the FA Cup this season when they turned over Brighton and Hove Albion 1-0 away from home and then defeated QPR away from home 2-1.
Their hosting of Man City will strike a lot of fear in some fans that a heavy defeat could be on the cards, however, one of their last home clashes in the cup against a Premier League big hitter was very successful as they thumped Arsenal 3-0 in the 2015/16 League Cup.
Goals from Ross Wallace, Lucas Joao, and Sam Hutchinson sealed a momentous victory as they pushed towards promotion, only to miss out in the play-off final.
This clash was five seasons ago and a lot has changed since then, so where are those from the starting 11 now?
