On the 8th May 2010, then-Leeds United boss Simon Grayson secured his side's promotion to the Championship when they defeated Bristol Rovers 2-1.

Since then, it has all changed at Elland Road with the arrival of a controversial new owner in Massimo Cellino and a staggering 11 new managers since Simon Grayson's departure back at the start of 2012.

Since their fall from the top flight, Leeds have now joined the long list of big clubs such as Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest fighting to win back promotion to the place they believe they belong - which is the Premier League.

There was just over 38,000 inside Elland Road on the day they won back promotion to the Championship, a number that was nearly matched in Sunday's loss to Newcastle United which suggests that there is a better feel around the club under current boss Gary Monk.

So where are the promotion winning Leeds United XI from 2010 now?

FLW writer Harry Webster takes a look at the most used Leeds XI from the 2009/10 season.

GK - Shane Higgs - Retired

Although he was hindered by injury for some of this season, Shane Higgs was a key part of Leeds United's promotion winning campaign.

Admittedly, experienced keeper Casper Ankergen also played a role for the Whites though it was Higgs that played the biggest part.

Now 39-years-old, Higgs is without a club after his release from Northampton Town in 2012.

RB - Andrew Hughes - Huddersfield (coach)

Although he played in centre midfield for most of his career, the former Leeds player played at full back for much of their promotion winning season.

Hughes then spent time at Scunthorpe United and Charlton Athletic before joining Bolton Wanderers as a player and coach.

Since then, Hughes has had roles in the coaching set up at Rotherham United and Crystal Palace before now being at Huddersfield Town where he is first team coach working alongside David Wagner.

CB - Richard Naylor - Retired

Richard Naylor was a key figure in the heart of the Leeds United defence that season after returning from a long-term injury which meant Jonny Howson was made club captain in his absence.

In his return, Naylor's leadership was a vital reason as to why the Whites achieved promotion that season.

After Leeds, Naylor spent time at both Doncaster Rovers and Rotherham United before he retired in the summer of 2012.

After that, Naylor returned to Leeds to work alongside Neil Redfearn.

He then coached the under-18 side, winning their league, as well as becoming assistant manager when Redfearn took over as caretaker manager.

In the summer of 2014, new owner Massimo Cellino sacked Naylor as the under-18's coach.

CB - Patrick Kisnorbo - Melbourne City (coach)

Despite injury forcing Kisnorbo to miss the end of the season, his performances that season were great and he certainly played an important role in their promotion to the Championship.

After Leeds, Kisnorbo moved back to his home country of Australia where he signed for Melbourne City before being made club captain in the 2014/15 season.

The following season, Kisnorbo retired from the game but was appointed assistant youth coach at Melbourne City.

LB - Aidan White - Barnsley

Although Leeds had a few players who played in the left back position such as Andrew Hughes and Shane Lowry, White was arguably Leeds' best performer in that position.

His pace and defensive abilities were impressive and he was an important part of the back four that season.

After leaving Elland Road, White joined Rotherham United but had his contract terminated only six months into the season.

From there he moved to Barnsley where is still currently playing his football.

RM - Max Gradel - Bournemouth

Gradel was on loan from Leicester City in the promotion winning season before his stunning performances meant that Simon Grayson made his move permanent in the following summer.

Gradel's trickery, pace and skill going forward caught the eye and he terrorised League One defences all season.

As he continued to excel at Elland Road in the season to come, he earned a move to France with Saint-Etienne before moving to Premier League side AFC Bournemouth in the summer of 2015.

CM - Jonny Howson - Norwich

Howson stood in as captain for the injured Richard Naylor for half of the season and he proved an effective replacement.

His work rate and energy in the Leeds United midfield was exceptional and it was hardly surprising when Norwich City bought him in the 2012 January transfer window.

Howson still plays for the Canaries in the Championship and has achieved multiple promotions to the Premier League during his time at Carrow Road.

CM - Neil Kilkenny - Melbourne City

Kilkenny was instrumental in Leeds' promotion winning team and his partnership with Jonny Howson in the centre of midfield was a major influencing reason why Simon Grayson's side achieved promotion that season.

Now at 30-years-old, he has played for Bristol City and Preston after leaving Elland Road but the Australian international headed home this summer and his playing for Melbourne City in the A-League.

LM - Robert Snodgrass - Hull

Robert Snodgrass

His selection into the League One PFA team of the year in that promotion winning season is indicative of how impressive Snodgrass was that season.

It is hardly surprising when you consider his career now, where he is a key player for Premier League side Hull City as well as impressing at Norwich City before.

The Scotland international was sensational at Leeds and way too good for League One at the time.

ST - Jermaine Beckford - Preston

Beckford was already attracting interest from a number of clubs during the entire season but remained determined to help fire Leeds to the Championship and he did just that.

Beckford scored 31 goals in all competitions which included the winning goal on the final day of the season to send them up as well as a famous winner at Old Trafford against Manchester United in the FA Cup.

Full of potential, he moved to Everton the following season but failed to make an impact in the top flight.

After that Beckford's career started to decline, playing for Leicester City, Huddersfield Town and Bolton Wanderers but he is now reunited with Grayson at Preston North End.

ST - Luciano Becchio - Free Agent

becchioooo99

While it is true that Beckford's career declined after leaving Leeds, it wasn't quite as bad as the decline of Luciano Becchio.

The partnership of Becchio and Beckford was exceptional in Leeds' promotion winning season, both firing the Whites to promotion.

In the January transfer window of the 2012/13 season, Becchio finally departed Elland Road and joined Norwich City - a move that, in hindsight, destroyed his career.

Becchio failed to make an impact at Carrow Road and he was subsequently released at the end of the 2014/15 season before a brief spell with Neil Redfearn at Rotherham United after a period in Argentina.

He most recently failed to impress on trial at League One Coventry City.
