Stoke City are set for a potentially busy summer transfer window, with some of their key players being linked with moves away from the bet365 Stadium.
The Potters finished 14th in the Championship table this term under the management of Michael O’Neill, and they’ll be targeting a top-six finish in the second-tier in the 2021/22 season.
But that push for a play-off spot in the Championship could be dependant on whether they can keep their key players at the club over the summer.
One of those to be linked with a move away from Stoke City is defender Harry Souttar, with the 22-year-old emerging as a transfer target for Premier League side Burnley according to a recent report from LancsLive.
Souttar has made 43 appearances in all competitions for Michael O’Neill’s side this term, and will be looking to go from strength to strength with the Potters.
Burnley have already registered their interest in Souttar’s Stoke City team-mate Nathan Collins, but it remains to be seen as to whether they’ll match the Potters’ valuation of the Irish defender.
That could mean that they’ve turned their attentions to signing Souttar heading into the summer transfer window, although it remains to be seen as to what Stoke’s valuation is of the 22-year-old at this stage.
It is claimed by LancsLive that it would take a ‘sizeable offer’ to prize him away from Stoke City though, with Souttar signing a new contract with the Potters earlier in the 2020/21 season.
But that hasn’t eased Burnley’s interest in signing him though, with it being reported that Sean Dyche’s side see the defender as a player that has the potential to improve even more at the early stage of his professional career.
Only time will tell to see if Burnley can reach an agreement to sign Souttar, but the prospect of playing Premier League football ahead of the 2021/22 campaign could be a tempting proposition for the Stoke City defender this summer.
