Lee Bowyer has this morning been named Caretaker Manager at Charlton Athletic, stepping up from assistant in the wake of Karl Robinson's departure.

Bowyer has been a controversial figure in his career, but his appointment brings his career full circle, having started out as an apprentice at Charlton back in 1994.

His career has since taken him to Leeds, Birmingham and West Ham, encompassing fights with team mates and the general public, as well as international honours and UEFA Cup semi-finals.

He now takes charge of a play off push in which Charlton still have a vested interest. They're ninth in League One, five points away from the top six but with a game in hand. They've been embroiled in take over rumours for a while now, something that has detracted somewhat from the on-pitch action.

Addicks fans have been taking to Twitter to express their opinions on the move, with some bemused at the appointment, but others feeling the club might have pulled of a masterstroke.
