After the 2017/18 season ended, once again, in an underwhelming and mediocre fashion it would have been hard to blame Nottingham Forest fans for fearing more the same this time around.

But Aitor Karanka and the board clearly decided that enough was enough, it was time to get the club back into the top-flight.

How would they do that? By carrying out a huge squad overhaul.

A whopping 16 new faces arrived in the summer transfer window as the Spaniard pieced together a squad that could challenge for promotion.

The likes of Michael Dawson, Costel Pantilimon, Lewis Grabban, Sam Byram and Jack Colback all arrived to plenty of fan-fair and excitement.

There was one man who did not cause quite as much excitement, however.

This is FLW Rewind where we take a look back at a big decision made by a club, analyse the initial reaction and document what happened next.

The arrival of Saidy Janko on a season-long loan from Porto was one that did not carry a lot of pomp with it.

Having underwhelmed in Britain before during spells with Barnsley and Celtic the fans found it hard to get excited at all by the right-back's arrival:

However, the 23-year-old did not let the criticism of his arrival get him down as it would other players.

Instead, he set about proving all of these doubters wrong and has been on brilliant form this season, impressing the fans who once doubted him with his exciting attacking flare as well as his defensive abilities and intelligence.

Although he has been out of the team for the last few matches, there is no doubt that he will use that decision by Karanka to spur him on even more.
