Graeme Shinnie has finally joined Derby after signing a pre-contract agreement in April.

However, when Shinnie signed the deal with Derby, he wouldn't have predicted that Sarri would be snapped up by Juventus and that Lampard would be taking his role.

Graeme Shinnie has been an important part of Aberdeen’s recent successful spell in Scotland, notching up an impressive 144 league games for the club.

The centre midfielder signed for Aberdeen in 2015 from Inverness Caledonian Thistle and become the captain at Pittodrie in 2017.

Derby beat off interest from clubs such as Celtic, and signed a three-year deal with The Rams.

When the signing was announced, Shinnie admitted at the time that it was "a really tough decision."

So what will the Scotsman be thinking now about Lampard's imminent departure? It looks like Cocu is most likely to be taking over, after his unsuccessful spell with Fenerbahce in Turkey, according to The Guardian.

It is obviously impossible to tell how influential Lampard was in his move, but it must be a shame to go to a club who has just lost a really liked and respected manager.

Lampard did a great job with Derby, and with Shinnie also playing in central midfield, he will feel like he could have learnt a lot from him.

Shinnie also would have got reassurances when he made this move that he would be a key part of Lampard's plans, and they have now gone out of the window.

However, if Shinnie is desperate to learn from legends, then the possible appointment of Phillip Cocu should get his heart racing. The Dutchman had a long career, where he also played in centre midfield, albeit more defensively, so should still be able to get something out of him.

Cocu will have his work cut out, though, with a lot of loan players coming in last year he will need to replace them with quality if they are to be approaching the top six.

It shouldn't be a deal breaker for Shinnie - who might be a bit frustrated - but he would've known before he took the offer that a lot can change in football.
