Leeds United striker Eddie Nketiah came off the bench to score the winner against Brentford last night, which has caused excitement amongst many fans of the Yorkshire club.

Much of the focus in the build-up to the game had been about Pontus Jansson’s return to Elland Road but it was Nketiah that stole the headlines, scoring his first league goal and grabbing the three points for the Whites.

The Englishman was in the right place to convert a Helder Costa cross after the Whites burst forward on the break in the 81st minute.

The 20-year-old joined on loan from Arsenal this summer and has now scored on his debut for the senior side, in the Championship and for the under-23s.

Leeds are understood to have had to fight hard for Nketiah’s signature (The Athletic) and his fast start at the club has shown why.

The win means the Whites remain top of the Championship with 10 points from four games, only above Swansea City on goal difference.

They travel to bottom-of-the-league Stoke City on Saturday and there will undoubtedly be calls for Marcelo Bielsa to start the young forward at the Bet365 Stadium.
