Sunderland are making steady progress on the pitch under Lee Johnson, with the Black Cats booking their place in the Papa John's Trophy final on Wednesday night.

Johnson's side defeated Lincoln City on penalties to book their place at Wembley, with results in the league also looking on the up.

The Black Cats are only one point off the top-six, and they will be looking to turn draws into wins between now and the end of the season.

Fans will also be hoping to see further progress made off the pitch, with Kyril Louis-Dreyfus awaiting to have his takeover of the club approved.

The EFL are still yet to confirm Louis-Dreyfus' takeover, despite agreeing to take over the club back in December.

Louis-Dreyfus was at the Stadium of Light last night, though, which suggests that all the signs of a takeover being completed are looking positive. In fact, he has been present at the last two games against Shrewsbury Town and Doncaster Rovers.

Kyril's brother, Maurice, could also be set to join him in some capacity, with The Athletic recently claiming that a takeover is "imminent".

It seems that we are just days away from hearing another update on the saga, but in truth, there aren't too many more updates that can be provided. The only thing left to hear is whether the EFL have approved the takeover or not.

He's certainly preparing to take over on Wearside, though, having recently brushed up on his Sunderland lingo...
