Nottingham Forest were made to kick themselves after narrowly missing out on the signing of Kamil Grosicki last month.

The winger has fallen out of favour at West Bromwich Albion since joining from Hull City in January, making only four starting league appearances for the Baggies.

On transfer deadline day, Forest agreed to bring the 32-year-old to the City Ground on loan, with Grosicki signing on the dotted line ahead of a move to the City Ground.

Unfortunately for Forest, the paperwork they submitted to the EFL was sent 21 seconds after the 5pm deadline, leaving a move hanging in the balance.

After nearly two weeks of investigating the situation, the EFL rejected the move, with Grosicki returning to West Brom and being added to Slaven Bilic's 25-man Premier League squad.

Fresh speculation has this week emerged, though, with the Sunday Mirror (page 65) claiming that Middlesbrough are interested in signing Grosicki in Janaury.

The report adds that Forest remain keen on the Poland international, but who wins the race for him, and whether Grosicki will be available to sign or not, both remain to be seen.

It also remains to be seen whether the two sides' league positions affect Grosicki's thinking if he is allowed to leave the Hawthorns.

Middlesbrough beat Forest at the weekend, seeing them climb to fifth in the Championship table, and leaving Forest sitting one place above the relegation zone.
