Middlesbrough will be aiming to ramp up their transfer activities now with the new campaign approaching and Neil Warnock fully aware he needs to recruit further.
So far this summer, Boro have managed to bring in the likes of Sammy Ameobi, Uche Ikpeazu, Joe Lumley, Matt Crooks and Lee Peltier.
Whilst all of those arrivals have been much-needed and will add extra depth and quality to the squad there are still important areas that need addressing.
Boro are still in need of adding extra options in the wide attacking positions to go alongside their signing of Ameobi following his exit from Nottingham Forest.
To that end, Middlesbrough were initially linked with a potential interest in signing Junior Hoilett following his departure from Cardiff City when his contract expired at the end of last term.
It was believed by the Northern Echo that the Canada international was one of the names that Middlesbrough were considering as they searched for more attacking options to add to their squad.
However, since then it has been reported by Berkshire Live that Championship rivals Reading are also potentially interested in securing the free-agent’s services this summer.
It is thought that the Royals are monitoring his situation as well as that of former Boro attacker Yannick Bolasie.
It did potentially seem that Middlesbrough might miss out on Hoilett’s signature and that Warnock would possibly not be able to reunite with the winger if Reading were going to come in with an offer for him.

The latest reports on his future from teamTALK though have revealed that Middlesbrough have held talks over the possibility of bringing in the 31-year-old on a free transfer this summer.
That comes with Warnock believed to be considering offering Kadeem Harris and Sol Bamba a chance to work with him once again this time at the Riverside Stadium.
Since those reports emerged, Hoilett has been enjoying himself on the international stage with Canada at the Gold Cup this summer.
The winger was on target for his national team in their 2-0 win against Costa Rica on Monday and he has contributed two goals and two assists in his four appearances in the competition so far.
Middlesbrough might have to wait until after Hoilett has finished international duties with Canda at the Gold Cup this summer before they can wrap up a potential deal for him. However, the winger’s exploits might have further convinced Warnock to reunite with him.
