Swansea City's transition from Steve Cooper to Russell Martin has seen Jay Fulton fall down the pecking order significantly.

Last season, Fulton featured 43 times in the Championship as Swansea reached the play-off final under Cooper. This time around, Martin has called on his service on only five occasions.

That's led to speculation over the 27-year-old's future at Swansea this January, with Alan Nixon reporting in the middle of the month that Barnsley and Blackpool were both open to a loan move for Fulton.

The latest comes from Lancashire Live, suggesting that a loan move for Fulton doesn't really suit the midfielder this month, due to the fact that the Scot still has a chunky deal behind him in South Wales.

Fulton signed a contract extension with Swansea back in January 2021, committing himself to the Swans until the summer of 2024. That agreement came at a time when Fulton was thriving in Cooper's midfield, which is, of course, no longer the case under Martin.

However, there's been a touch of redemption for Fulton in recent days, or at least that's what the Swansea fans are hoping for.

Martin handed Fulton a brief cameo during the weekend win over Preston North End, before getting extended minutes from the bench last night as Swansea picked up a very good point away at Queens Park Rangers.

So, that's two of Fulton's five Championship appearances that have come in the last two games.

Whether that means there's scope for Fulton knuckling down and winning a place under Martin remains to be seen, with interest seemingly still bubbling away in the background.
