With Ashley Fletcher still out for some time through injury, Britt Assombalonga and Chuba Akpom currently stand alone as Middlesbrough's only two striking options.

It seems therefore, as though Neil Warnock's side could benefit from some attacking reinforcement sooner rather than later.

One potential candidate to fill that role who has emerged recently, is Duncan Watmore, who is currently training with the Championship club.

Having been released by Sunderland at the end of last season, Watmore is now a free agent, meaning 'Boro would not have to wait until the January transfer window opens to sign the 26-year-old, and it seems as though Warnock is keen to take advantage of that.

Can you name Middlesbrough's top scorer in each of the last 13 season?

Warnock has already confirmed that he is keen to secure a deal for Watmore, but it seems that there is still no certainty that that will happen.

With 'Boro still to put an offer together, it has recently been reported that Watmore has interest from abroad, with approaches for the striker from clubs in Australia and India seemingly now confirmed.

Despite that, Warnock still appears hopeful of getting his man, and has asked Watmore to be patient and wait for an offer to come from Middlesbrough before making a final decision on his future.

It has previously been suggested that Watmore was in favour of securing a deal with Middlesbrough rather than making a move abroad, and with Warnock's side unbeaten in nine and currently occupying a Championship play-off spot, you can see why that would be appealing for Watmore.

As a result, Warnock could have reason to be confident here, provided the club can come up with an offer for Watmore that gives him what he feels he needs.
