Derby County remain on the lookout for a new manager following the departure of Phillip Cocu last month.

The Dutchman was relieved of his duties at Pride Park last month following a disappointing start to the season, with the Rams still looking for his successor.

Wayne Rooney has since been played in interim charge of the Rams, and picked up his first win at the helm with a 1-0 away victory over Millwall at the weekend.

It seems as if Rooney is the frontrunner to take charge permanently, too, with the Derby Telegraph claiming that the former Manchester United man is in 'pole position' to be given the job.

The recent appointment of Steve McClaren as Technical Director hints that a young, progressive coach could be placed in charge to compliment the former England manager's experience and knowhow.

It was claimed by The Sun on Sunday, though, that Burnley manager Sean Dyche is being considered for the vacant role.

It remains to be seen whether Dyche does end up leaving Burnley, having previously been left unhappy with the club's financial decisions.

His contract expires in 2022, and he is reportedly set to begin talks over a new deal at Turf Moor, so a move to Pride Park would be a coup for Derby.

With John Terry also in the frame for the job, the Mirror claim that the former Chelsea man is keen to bring in Ashley Cole as his assistant if he is appointed.

Whoever Derby do decide to appoint, they will be hopeful of kicking on after picking up only their second league win of the season on Saturday.
