What is the latest with Callum Robinson’s situation amid strong Preston North End links?

The end of Callum Robinson’s time as a West Bromwich Albion player could be about to come this summer – just two years into a five-year deal with the Baggies.

The Republic of Ireland international first arrived at The Hawthorns on loan from Sheffield United in January 2020, and has scored goals for the Midlands club in both the Championship and Premier League.

However, despite scoring seven times for West Brom last season in the Championship, Robinson appears to be unwanted by manager Steve Bruce.

What year were PNE officially founded?

The Athletic reported last month that Robinson is one of a number of players at Albion who will be made available for transfer this summer, and just a couple of weeks later, one club in particular made their interest known.

As first told by the Express & Star, Robinson’s former side Preston North End, where he spent three years as a permanent Lilywhite and also two separate stints beforehand on loan, were interested in signing the 27-year-old on a temporary deal.

There was silence from PNE’s end for a number of days, with it usually being made clear if a player is not in their sights, but the latest update from Lancashire is perhaps a positive one.

North End manager Ryan Lowe has said that he would be interested in Robinson should he become available, and considering he appears to be just that by his current employers, we can assume that it means PNE are very much in the running.

However, a stumbling block could come in the way of a price-tag – West Brom are believed to want to offload the forward permanently this summer for around £4 million, which is far and beyond what PNE could afford.

The Lilywhites want to strike a loan deal for their former wide player, and as it stands there is no agreement just yet.
