Naby Sarr is a player in demand after his departure from Huddersfield Town this summer, with Championship duo Birmingham City and Reading reportedly among the clubs interested in the central defender.

That's according to Football Insider, who reported earlier this week that the second tier pair have registered their interest in the 28-year-old but face competition from Bundesliga 2 side FC Kaiserslautern.

Sarr is a free agent after being released by the Huddersfield – having spent two years at the Yorkshire club and helped them reach the play-off final last season – and is a proven Championship performer with 100 appearances in the division under his belt.

Reading and Birmingham are said to be interested but it is unclear at this point whether either club has made contact with the defender or tabled an offer.

The Blues announced on-loan Wolves centre-back Dion Sanderson as the first signing of the John Eustace era yesterday, which bolsters the new manager's options in that area.

Eustace now has Sanderson, Harlee Dean, Marc Roberts, Marc Roberts, George Friend, and Nico Gordon to choose from and that may mean they opt against a move for Sarr.

That said, Gordon is still just 20, Friend is a 34-year-old converted full-back, and Dean appeared set to leave the Blues before the change in manager so it would not be a surprise to see Birmingham still make a move for the free agent.

With Michael Morrison gone and Liam Moore facing an extended period on the sidelines, it would not be a surprise to see Paul Ince bring in Sarr as cover and competition for the likes of Tom Holmes, Tom McIntyre, and Scott Dann.
