Maxwel Cornet has found himself a transfer target for Chelsea this summer window.

The Burnley player had an exciting campaign in an otherwise dire year for the Clarets as Sean Dyche’s side earned relegation to the Championship.

That relegation has seen a £17.5 million release clause in the player’s contract become active, according to reports.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are in the market for a wide attacking player, which fits the bill of the former Lyon player.

However, first targets have reportedly been to lure Raheem Sterling and Raphinha away from Manchester City and Leeds United respectively.

It has been claimed that while the Blues are tracking a move for the forward, it is unlikely that an offer will come unless other targets are not acquired.

The latest on Chelsea’s deal to sign Raphinha is that Barcelona are looking to gazump the deal but are struggling to put together the finances involved.

That would be a £60 million outlay on the Leeds player, so Cornet would make for a much cheaper alternative given his release clause.

It remains to be seen if there are any other targets that the Premier League side may prioritise over the potential signing of Cornet.

But if the deal to sign Raphinha does collapse, then perhaps a move for the 25-year old could yet be on the cards.

Cornet proved he is a top flight calibre player during the previous campaign, scoring nine goals for the side as they finished 18th in the table.

He also has Champions League level experience from his time playing in France, which would suit Thomas Tuchel’s side due to their participation in the competition this season.
