Rangers forward Kemar Roofe has been linked with a move away from the Scottish giants this summer.

League One side Derby County have thrown their hat into the ring to sign the 29-year old.

The Rams are looking to build a side capable of competing in the third division following the completion of the takeover of the club earlier this month.

Clowes Development have already helped to settle the dust over the club’s administration concerns.

But now the onus will be on the new owners to provide the funds for Liam Rosenior to put together a complete squad.

Derby have already signed the likes of David McGoldrick, Conor Hourinhane, James Chester among others.

However, the signing of Roofe would be a statement of intent for Rosenior, with the striker having shown his goal scoring instincts in Scotland.

Roofe has scored 24 goals across two seasons, including 14 in Steven Gerrard’s league winning campaign in 2020-21.

But the Englishman has struggled for consistent game time in his two years at Ibrox, only starting 27 times.

That highlights how prolific he can be if given a more constant presence in the starting lineup, which Derby would no doubt look to provide.

With the absence of Colin Kazim-Richards, Roofe would comfortably slot into a prime position in the squad to play alongside McGoldrick up front.

It remains to be seen what kind of transfer agreement would be needed to secure the signing of Roofe, but Derby will want to do all they can to bring the forward to Pride Park.

He could have a huge impact on the team’s chances of fighting for promotion straight back into the Championship if he can fire on all cylinders.

It would also be significant for him to take the drop down to the third tier given Rangers are competing in European competition, but that can show the power that a consistent run of games can have in influencing a player’s career decisions.
