Djed Spence is aiming to secure a move away from Middlesbrough this summer.

The full back is coming off the back of an excellent campaign while out on loan with Nottingham Forest.

The 22-year old was crucial in helping Steve Cooper’s side gain promotion to the Premier League.

That has seen Tottenham Hotspur fend off interest from the Reds to take pole position in the race to sign Spence this transfer window.

This has been a transfer saga that has dragged on and on, with both clubs struggling to match evaluation on the player.

But it now appears that an agreement worth up to £15 million is close.

It has been reported that the club were engaging in talks over a figure, with the pair only a few millions pounds short in their evaluation, with add-ons likely to be included in the deal that see it rise to £16 million.

Despite such a protracted negotiation process, it is now being reported that the deal is edging ever closer now following their most recent discussions over the transfer.

Spence signing for Spurs would make him the fifth addition to Antonio Conte’s side this summer, following the arrivals of Fraser Forster, Ivan Perisic, RIcharlison and Yves Bissouma.

Meanwhile, Boro will be aiming to reinvest the money back into Chris Wilder’s side as they look to compete for promotion from the Championship this season.

Wilder led the team to a 7th place finish in the table last season having taken over the side midway through the campaign.
