What is the latest news with Daniel Iversen’s situation as Middlesbrough and Preston eye player?

After a fantastic season between the sticks for Preston North End, Daniel Iversen is a top contender to win Preston North End’s Player of the Season award.

The Danish goalkeeper returned to Deepdale on a season-long loan spell from Leicester City following his half-season stint at PNE in the 2020-21 season, and he’s appeared in every single Championship match along the way this season.

Iversen has kept 13 clean sheets for the Lilywhites in the league but it is his shot-stopping abilities that has wowed both North End fans and opposition supporters the most.

Unfortunately though for North End, Iversen’s performances were always going to attract attention from other clubs and it appears they may have competition on their hands to try and get the 24-year-old back in yet another loan move for the 2022-23 campaign.

That is because Middlesbrough are said to be interested in bringing Iversen in as their new number one, per a report from The Sun, with Joe Lumley failing to impress this season.

It’s unclear as to whether Boro would target a loan move or a permanent acquisition of Iversen, but he has a contract running until the summer of 2025 at the Foxes, so a decent sized fee would likely be required to tempt Brendan Rodgers to part ways with the towering figure.

If it comes down to a battle between North End and Boro then you’d imagine the latter would come out victorious with their ability to pay more in wages, and it appears that PNE are already looking at potential alternatives for next season.

Along with Sheffield United, they have been linked with a move for Manchester City youngster Gavin Bazunu this summer – that would suggest that Ryan Lowe is resigned to losing Iversen for next season and that could potentially be to a league rival in Chris Wilder’s side.
