According to Blackpool's retained list, that was published on the club's website on Tuesday morning, Charlie Kirk has returned to Charlton Athletic at the end of his loan deal.

There was an option to buy clause in the loan deal, thought to be around £500,000, that has not been exercised by the Tangerines.

However, the Blackpool Gazette believe that Neil Critchley's men are still interested in signing the 24-year-old permanently but at a reduced fee than was agreed in the loan deal, this notion was also supported by Richard Cawley of the South London Press.

With three years left on his contract at The Valley, the Addicks are under no pressure to sell one of their prized assets, for potentially less than they paid for him in the summer of 2021, believed to be a fee in the region on £500,000 from Crewe Alexandra.

Should the Tangerines table a bid, set to be less than what was agreed in the loan deal, which provided a break-even opportunity for Charlton, the ball would be in the South Londoners' court to see if they wanted to accept a loss for the services of one of the more exciting wingers in League One, just a year after signing him on a four-year contract.

Kirk's fate may rest a little on the new manager, when appointed, at Charlton, with the Addicks looking to head in a different direction to the style of play and formation Johnnie Jackson deployed at the helm in 2021/22.

This will not be the last we hear in regards to Charlie Kirk in the summer transfer window.
