Liverpool right-back Calvin Ramsay is attracting interest from Championship duo Swansea City and Watford who are both interested in luring him away from Anfield on loan, according to last weekend's report from The Sun.

The Hornets looked to have addressed their right-back area with Mario Gaspar, Jeremy Ngakia, Leandro Bacuna, Dan Gosling and new signing Joao Ferreira all options at Slaven Bilic's disposal when available.

However, the Hertfordshire outfit are in the midst of an injury crisis and with this, it was no surprise when it emerged that Ngakia had suffered a hamstring setback, with Ferreira stepping up to the plate in his place.

Despite this, this area may not be a priority for Bilic's men for the remainder of this month and that could put the Swans in pole position to secure his signature.

Fin Stevens was recalled at the start of the month and with Joel Latibeaudiere's future also looking uncertain with the ex-Manchester City player not putting pen to paper on fresh terms at this stage, they may need to take a closer look at their right wing-back area between now and the end of the transfer window.

Latibeaudiere's contract in South Wales expires in the summer, so Russell Martin's side face the prospect of losing him either this month or in the summer, not exactly an ideal situation for them considering they aren't big spenders in the transfer market.

With this, a loan deal for Liverpool's Ramsay may be preferable and considering they only have two loanees on their books, they can add three more to their matchday squad.

However, Jurgen Klopp's side are reportedly reluctant to let him go this month and yesterday evening's story from TEAMtalk even claimed that the Reds' manager has ruled out a loan exit completely.

This is despite the fact the 19-year-old has made just two competitive appearances this term, making a very short cameo against Napoli at the start of November but managing to claim a start in the Carabao Cup against Derby County just over a week later.

For a player that has already made his international debut for Scotland though, he will surely be craving more first-team action with the teenager playing regularly for former side Aberdeen last season.

Klopp, however, is keen to keep him on Merseyside for now with the German believing he will be best served staying at the club as he continues his development.

Having the chance to train with world-class players, the youngster may not complain too much against Klopp's stance, though he will face a major tussle for the remainder of this season in his quest to win more senior minutes.

Neco Williams may have left permanently in the summer - but Trent Alexander-Arnold is still at the club with the likes of James Milner and Joe Gomez able to operate on the right-hand side when required too.

As a more orthodox option though, Ramsay could potentially be given more first-team opportunities in the coming months, not only in the Premier League but also the FA Cup and the Champions League.

With the Reds currently in ninth place, it would be difficult to see a youngster like Ramsay utilised too heavily in the league considering Klopp will come under a huge amount of pressure if they fail to secure a finish higher up the division.

An injury crisis could give him a real opportunity to shine, something Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams know all too well from their spell in the first team during the 2020/21 campaign.
