Lincoln City ended their League One season with a victory over Crewe Alexandra.

That result left the Imps 17th in the third division table, with plenty of work needed this summer to improve the team.

The gap to the relegation zone was 12 points come the end of the campaign, but Lincoln will be hoping to compete further up the table over the next 12 months.

The club recently appointed Mark Kennedy as the new manager of the first team, having replaced Michael Appleton.

The 46-year old was impressed with the club’s recent work in the transfer market and will be hoping to improve the squad this summer window.

Kennedy credited the work of Joe Hutchinson and Marc Tracy with how they have been able to bring in bright young talents to the club such as Brennan Johnson.

The Nottingham Forest player spent the 2020-21 campaign with the club as they reached the play-off final.

The forward has since reached another play-off final with Wembley having continued to develop at the City Ground.

But Kennedy believes that Johnson’s path to senior football is a strong selling point to joining Lincoln, as he is proof that a player can have their big breakthrough into senior football at the club before going onto bigger things.

However, Lincoln also confirmed the departures of John Marquis and Max Melbourne this summer.

The pair did not have their contracts renewed having been able to come to an agreement over a new deal.

Marquis was previously linked with a move to Charlton Athletic having arrived at the LNER Stadium in January.

In his time with the club he scored five goals in 20 games.

However, the League One side did offer new contracts to Conor McGrandles and Liam Bridcutt, who is the club’s captain.

Lincoln announced the retained list for next season, but negotiations are ongoing with the pair, who have been important players for the side this season.

Bridcutt has suffered with injury problems throughout the campaign, but Lincoln have decided that he is worth keeping at the club for at least another 12 months, provided they can come to an agreement over new terms this summer.
