It is now less than two months until the January transer window opens, which could have some of those at Bournemouth starting to give some thought to the future of Phillip Billing at the club.

Back in the summer transfer window, the midfielder was heavily linked with a move to Norwich City, as the Canaries looked to strengthen their squad ahead of their return to the Premier League.

In the end though, no deal materialised, with Billing ultimately staying put at The Vitality Stadium. However, with the January transfer window looming, the 25-year-old may soon be the subject of speculation once again.

Recent reports have suggested that Chelsea could be set to recall Billy Gilmour from his loan spell at Norwich, as a result of the 20-year-old's lack of game time at Carrow Road.

Were that to happen, Norwich could then be forced to look for another option in midfield, and given their past links with Billing, you wonder whether that would see the Canaries revisit their interest in the Dane.

Even if that were to happen, it would arguably be a surprise if such a deal was to go through.

Right now, Norwich are rooted to the foot of the Premier League table - with just two points from ten games this season - while by contrast, Bournemouth flying at the top of the Championship standings, nine points clear of the play-off places.

As a result, it could be argued that remaining with the Cherries would be a more appealing proposition for Billing, and one that gives him a better chance of playing in the top-flight next season.

Indeed, with two-and-a-half years remaining on is contract at The Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth would also be in a strong position to knock back any offers for the midfielder, something they would surely do given his importance to their side this season.

With that in mind, it seems that as things stand right now, the chances of Billing leaving Bournemouth during the January transfer window, look rather slim.
