The future of Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Keiren Westwood remains up in the air, with the experienced Irishman not featuring for the Owls since November 2019.

Garry Monk has often been keen to have Cameron Dawson as his first-choice shot-stopper between the posts, whilst having Joe Wildsmith as the club's backup option.

So, with Westwood's lack of game time, it didn't come as a surprise to hear that the club are willing to listen to offers for the goalkeeper.

But Yorkshire Live have previously revealed that Sheffield Wednesday made the somewhat surprising decision to reject two different loan offers for the 35-year-old.

It wasn't stated which teams submitted offers for his services, but it certainly came as a surprise to see the club turning down loan offers. Blackburn Rovers have previously been interested in signing him, so you would imagine that they could have been one of the teams to further their interest with a formal offer.

Garry Monk has previously revealed that he hasn't been given an update in terms of Westwood's future at the club, with his game time looking limited at Hillsborough this season.

"The club deal with everything else. I have not been told anything about our players in terms of outgoings."

Cameron Dawson made a costly error against Brentford for the Bees' opener on Wednesday evening, but it still seems likely that Garry Monk will keep the faith with his number-one choice for the foreseeable future.

Westwood has a considerable amount of experience under his belt, especially in the Championship, so it certainly feels as though it's somewhat of a waste to have him away from the first-team squad in Garry Monk's plans at the moment.

But for now, it seems as though he's going to be staying at Hillsborough, although it wouldn't come as a surprise to see him push for a move elsewhere in the January transfer window if he is to continue to be frozen out of the first-team picture.

Sheffield Wednesday are set to return to action this weekend, when they take on Luton Town at Hillsborough, in a match they'll fancy their chances of picking up three points from.
