Birmingham City have had a poor season this year currently sitting 19th in the league.

Thankfully for Blues fans they are 14 points above the relegation zone so are looking safe from relegation but things are still not improving for Bowyer's side right now.

Having only two wins in their previous ten games, they are in poor form and at this stage are looking to see the season out and strengthen their squad this summer in hope of a better season next year.

After the international break, the Blues have seven games in which they can try and pick up their form and give their fans something to sing about as they going into the summer.

Here we look at some of the news that is surrounding Birmingham City during this international break.

Kasey Palmer

Birmingham were initially interested in Bristol City's Kasey Palmer in January and were reported to have proposed a deal to bring him in in exchange for another unnamed Birmingham defender.

However, the move didn't materialise and Palmer stayed with the Robins.

Bowyer did confirm he was interested in Palmer and likes the player but gave no indication as to whether a deal could be struck this summer.

However, Bristol World have reported that the 25-year-old is almost certain to leave Bristol City this summer which comes as no surprise considering he has made one start for the Robins this season and hasn't made an appearance for Bristol City since October.

There was reported interest in the player from other Championship clubs including Huddersfield and QPR so who will get the player in summer is to be seen but Birmingham will no doubt be looking at the possibility of recruiting the player.

Terell Thomas

With Birmingham needing to improve defensively, reporter Jacque Talbot had reported that Birmingham were interested in signing Terell Thomas.

However, Birmingham Live reported Brian Dick had confirmed that Birmingham would not be making this move after all and this afternoon fellow Championship side Reading have announced that they have signed Thomas instead.

You can see why Birmingham were looking at the player given their need to improve at the back but it looks like they made the right decision on this one.

Whilst Thomas is a good defender, he's never played above League One level and even though Reading have decided to take the player until the end of the season, with Birmingham needing to strengthen next season this signing could have been too risky as there's no guarantee he will adapt well to a higher league.

Furthermore, he only made 13 appearances for Crewe Alexandra earlier this season so Birmingham are right to be taking some time and seeing what other options present themselves in summer.

Should he do well at Reading and step up for their final eight games, this may be something Birmingham choose to revisit in summer.

Out of contract players

This summer, Birmingham see multiple players contract's expire including Kristian Pedersen, Jeremie Bela and Lukas Jutkiewicz.

On the subject of Pedersen, at the end of January Lee Bowyer admitted his side were likely to lose the player this summer and contract talks don't appear to have been very successful with him.

Bela and Jutkiewicz are both players who have been heavily involved in Birmingham's team this year making 29 and 33 league appearances respectively.

With both players also out of contract this summer, Birmingham will have to try and see if they can strike new deals with players that are starters under Lee Bowyer but given their poor season, it's yet to be seen whether these players will look for a move themselves.
