Portsmouth made a statement by beating high-flying Lincoln City 3-1 on Tuesday night, claiming their fourth win in five as their look to ready a promotion push.

One man that will be wishing Kenny Jackett's side well from afar is former Pompey defender Christian Burgess, who left Fratton Park this summer after five years with the South Coast club.

The 29-year-old penned an emotional farewell to the club and the fans at the time, having secured a move to Belgian side Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.

Union are one of the country's most successful clubs historically but find themselves in the second tier at the moment and Burgess will no doubt be hoping he can help them return to first the top flight and then perhaps their former glory.

If the first few months are anything to go by, he may be able to do just that. Burgess has been ever-present in the Belgian club's starting XI this term and has helped them climb to the top of the Proximus League.

Are these 12 facts about Pompey’s history genuine or not?

With the former Pompey man in the heart of their defence, Union have lost just once in the league all season and only KVC Westerlo – who have played three less game – have conceded fewer goals.

Their most recent victory, a 4-1 win against KVC Westerlo on Saturday, marked a major milestone for the Englishman as he reached 300 professional appearances – something he is clearly very proud of.

Burgess certainly appears to have settled well at the Belgian club but has not shown his threat in the final third, something many Pompey fans will likely remember fondly, and is yet to provide either a goal or an assist.

The 29-year-old was a fantastic servant for the South Coast club, surpassing 200 appearances, and it will surely please the Fratton Park faithful to seem him succeeding elsewhere.
