Sheffield Wednesday parted company with a cult-hero over the summer transfer window.

Atdhe Nuhiu had spent seven seasons at Hillsborough and was a hugely popular figure amongst the fans. He made 277 appearances for the club and scored 50 goals. However, his time in South Yorkshire was up in the summer gone by.

After leaving Wednesday, the 31-year-old took to social media to bid an emotional farewell to the fans that had supported him since 2013.

As per the striker's Instagram page, his parting statement read:

A new challenge awaited the forward, then, but that wasn't to be elsewhere in the Championship or with the chance of him coming back up against Sheffield Wednesday.

Instead, Nuhiu has linked up with Cypriot club, APOEL, where he's getting a shot at European football.

Nuhiu is yet to score his first goal in the Cypriot First Division, but he has made two appearances - one in the starting XI and the other from the bench.

Additionally, he's had a taste of the early rounds of the Europa League with his new side.

Quiz: Do Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United have these 10 things in common?

Nuhiu has made three appearances and scored in the Europa League for APOEL. His goal came in the 2-2 draw with Zrinjski Mostar, with Nuhiu playing 98 minutes of the game that stretched to extra time.

Additionally, Nuhiu has also featured on the international stage in the Nations League and Euro qualifiers for Kosovo. Unfortunately for the big striker, his side lost out to both Greece and North Macedonia in the two appearances he made.
