Brentford have scored 69 goals this season. That is the sixth most in the Championship and just two behind Leeds United who sit third.

Brentford have taken 43 points from their home matches this season. That is the fourth best in the Championship behind only the current top three.

Brentford employ Neal Maupay who is the third top scorer in the Championship. Maupay has scored 24 goals in the league this season - beating the likes of Billy Sharp, Dwight Gayle and Che Adams.

Brentford are 15th in the Championship.

How? With a top striker, incredible home from and silky quick football, how is it possible that Brentford, with one game left to play, sit so low in the division?

Firstly, their away from has been horrid. Only four teams of the 24 have a worse record on the road this season. This is possibly due to their style of football. Brentford like to be in control of matches so they can patiently build the play up.

They are expected to do this at home when the onus is on them to play football. The away team is often likely to sit back and look to counter which suits Brentford. However, when they are the team expected to absorb pressure… they can’t.

They have played a three-at-the-back system for almost every game this season but have failed to adapt to the challenge of playing in your own stadium, in front of your own supporters and being the team on the front foot to the challenge of playing in a different stadium, different supporters and a different game plan.

Teams who excel in the Championship are the ones who can put together a decent run of wins or avoid losing for good amount of games. You only have to look at Aston Villa to see this.

Brentford can’t, epitomised by their last three matches. They lost to Reading and draw to Millwall who sit 20th and 21st respectively away from home only to go on to beat Leeds United at Griffin Park to all but destroy their automatic promotion hopes.

Brentford simply have no consistency and have been let down by their terrible form away from home.
