Jack Harrison has continued to build his growing reputation at Leeds United in his second stint at the club, proving that his destiny lays higher than just Championship football for the future.

A move to England from NYCFC saw Jack Harrison sign for Manchester City back in the January of 2018. Having joined up with Pep Guardiola’s squad that month, he was immediately loaned out to Tony Pulis’ Middlesbrough where he failed to make any impact and left the Riverside that summer with little match experience under his belt.

Marcelo Bielsa’s appointment that summer saw him dip into the loan market to help bolster his squad along with some wise signings of Championship-proven players. Jack Harrison joined the club on a season-long loan and looked to continue his development amidst one of the most exciting managerial developments in England under Bielsa, a man that Guardiola has been on the record to state his admiration for the Argentine on numerous occasions.

A slow start to the campaign saw Harrison only manage four goals and three assists from the wing, despite featuring for the vast majority of the season.

A hectic pre-season saw the winger work extremely hard to get himself up to standards when his second loan spell was confirmed, to which he has taken full advantage.

Operating solely on the left-wing this season, the 23-year-old has seen much more consistency in his performances, becoming an ever-present out wide and already surpassing his goal involvements for last season with a current tally of five goals and seven assists.

While the Whites have been struggling to convert chances as efficiently as they create them, Harrison has massively improved in that regard this season, and would certainly have more assists to his name if other attackers weren’t misfiring.

Can you name the first goalscorer of Leeds' last 16 seasons?

The loan deal to bring Harrison to the club was confirmed to have an option-to-buy when it was first confirmed.

After two and a half seasons on-loan away from the Etihad Stadium, it’s becoming increasingly likely that Harrison’s permanent future will be best served away from Man City and the club leading the chase for his permanent signature is definitely Leeds.

Next season holds a lot of uncertainty for Leeds as their status is not yet confirmed, as they sit seven points clear of third place with nine games to play, meaning they could well be a Premier League outfit come next season.

Even for the most pessimistic of Leeds United fans will think that it would take a spectacular dip in form for the Whites not to clinch promotion back to the top flight, but even if that was the case, Harrison would still be one of the first names through the door in the summer transfer window.

A previous £15-20million valuation was not one that Leeds were interested in pursuing last summer, meaning there was no shock to see them make another loan move for him. Since then, the Citizens have budged in their valuation of Harrison, meaning that Leeds only have to fork out £8million for his services in the summer.

Regardless of the division that Leeds will find themselves in next season, they will certainly be looking to keep Harrison on the books because it’s clear to see that £8million could be a bargain for the years to come.

The way he has managed to refine his abilities in the final third is proof of his great potential and whether or not it be Leeds or elsewhere, his future certainly lies in the Premier League. Leeds will just be hoping that he showcases this talent in a white shirt for many years to come.
