It's fair to say that it has been a rather frustrating campaign for West Bromwich Albion defender Kieran Gibbs.

The 30-year-old has endured a disappointing spell on the sidelines through injury, whilst Slaven Bilic's side continue to fight for automatic promotion in the Sky Bet Championship.

The experienced full-back has been limited to just 11 appearances in all competitions this term - 10 of those coming in the Championship - in what has been a hugely frustrating campaign to date.

After limping off against Derby in August, Gibbs' return to the side turned out to be short-lived, hobbling off in the 1-1 draw with Leeds United on New Year's Day, and he has made only one appearances since.

When, or rather if, the season resumes, Gibbs will be looking to return to the side and reclaim his place in the starting line-up ahead of Conor Townsend and Darnell Furlong.

With Premier League football still a real possibility for Albion, a return to the top-flight will be massive for the left-back, who was part of the side that got relegated to the Championship in 2017/18.

But there is a lot more on the line than a place in Bilic's side for Gibbs, though, with the defender's contract set to run out at the Hawthorns at the end of the 2020/21 campaign.

If the Baggies do reach the Premier League, then Bilic may opt to go with a more experienced player in Gibbs at left-back, ahead of the likes of Furlong and Townsend.

However, after an impressive campaign thus far, Townsend could well keep his place in the side as a result of a number of solid, standout displays, with Gibbs struggling to gain regular game time after a couple of injury troubles.

There is also the possibility that Gibbs could be sold at the end of this season, especially if they fail to win promotion, rather than potentially losing him on a free transfer at the end of next season.

At 30 years of age, Gibbs now has four or five years to impress, and he will be desperate to make an impact for West Brom sooner rather than later.
