On Tuesday night at Loftus Road, Queen's Park Rangers' otherwise potentially mundane middle of the table clash with Sheffield Wednesday will be enlivened somewhat by the return of the Neil Warnock, a hugely popular figure among the Ranger's faithful who many thought was harshly treated when removed by the club during their first season back in the Premier League in 2012.

The official line from the club is that he has returned in an advisory capacity to give some knowledge and support to their under pressure first team coach Chris Ramsey - billed as a part time back seat role with Warnock himself declaring that he is no longer interested in full time management at this stage of his life.

There is no doubt that QPR could benefit from his input. Although the senior management have been at pains to point out that this season is one of consolidation, a team that still boasts substantial Premier League talent in the likes of Matt Phillips, Rob Green, Leroy Fer, Sandro and Charlie Austin (currently out injured with a hamstring injury) have underperformed in the eyes of many of their fans.

Part of the problem rests with a porous defence which is conceding goals at an alarming rate - two per game so far this season which puts pressure on the rest of the team to bail them out on a regular basis.

Warnock knows what it takes to be successful at this level having steered the Hoops to promotion previously, built on the bedrock of a miserly defence and his presence should help to steady the ship at Loftus Road, on the field at least.

Behind the scenes it could be a little different; the Ranger's faithful are bound to be chanting Warnock's name from the stands this evening which will make uncomfortable hearing for Chris Ramsey as he continues to try to win over the doubters.

Football can be an unforgiving game if results are against you - just ask Uwe Rosler at Leeds - and it will be interesting to see how the situation with Neil Warnock and Chris Ramsey develops over the coming weeks.
