Aston Villa's brilliant run of form under manager Dean Smith has burnt out in recent weeks, falling further and further behind in the race for a top-six finish with each game.

At the moment, they sit in tenth place on 38 points, five behind Derby County who currently occupy the final play-off spot ahead of their clash with struggling Wigan Athletic this weekend.

But they were dealt another setback on Thursday when it was announced that midfielder Henri Lansbury had picked up another hamstring injury ahead of the match.

The 28-year-old is yet to start in the league this season, with an eight-minute cameo in the 4-2 win against arch-rivals Birmingham City at the end of November his only Championship appearance so far.

Aside from those two appearances, his only other time in the first team was in the League Cup second-round clash with Burton Albion, a match in which he played 90 minutes but Villa lost 1-0.
