For Middlesbrough, preparations for next season are yet to get underway with a manager yet to be appointed to the Riverside dugout.

Tony Pulis was let go after his contract expired at the end of the campaign with increasing loud protestations against his football from the crowd.

Missing out on the play-offs will have been the final nail in his Boro coffin. But the question now is, who's next?

A lot of names have been linked with the gig, ranging from Jonathan Woodgate to Chris Wilder.

So, here to try and make sense of the situation is Louie Chandler, answering our big six questions...

How do you think Middlesbrough are handling things?

"Bizarrely.

"They clearly knew that they would not be keeping Tony Pulis past the end of the current campaign so I expected a new boss to have been confirmed by now.

"But the list of names coming out, ranging from Chris Wilder to Jorge Simao to Liam Rosenior just makes you wonder: What are they thinking?"

Who would be your top choice for the job?

"This is a job for Slavisa Jokanovic.

"The Serbian has been very hard to pin down since leaving Fulham and he seems to be enjoying his time away from the game.

"But he has an immense record in the Championship and if it were up to me I would be going all out to bring him to the Riverside."

Who would be the worst candidate out of the names mentioned?

"The Jorge Simao link worries me.

"As much as Middlesbrough need to freshen things up, I fear this would be going too far in the other direction. They need someone who at least knows the English game.

"The fact that Simao appears to have managed seven clubs in the last five years should ring alarm bells among the Boro board as well."

Which name has surprised you most?

"The Liam Rosenior link seems to have come from nowhere.

"It feels very familiar to when Gary Neville made the move to Valencia and that did not go too well, showing that being a good pundit does not automatically equal being a good manager.

"However, Rosenior would at least arrive with an immense knowledge of the Championship."

What should be top priority for whoever comes in?

"I think the general style of play needs revolutionising.

"Under Pulis it became, unsurprisingly, very agricultural and pretty awful to watch for the most part, so injecting some excitement into their play."

Who will get the job?

"I think they will get their hands on Jokanovic.

"Boro have been intent on getting back to the Premier League since their relegation in 2016 and they will no he gives them by far the best shot at that."
