Over the years, it's fair to say that Norwich City have put their money where their mouth is when it comes to player signings.

The Canaries have certainly been willing to spend in their attempts to compete at the top levels of English football, although as is the case with any club, some of their investments have been more successful than others.

But what has become of some of those that Norwich have really spent big on in recent years?

Here, we've taken a look at what the Canaries' eight biggest signings (based on their fees according to Transfermarkt) are up to now, in order to find out.

Ashton joined Norwich from Crewe in the 2005 January transfer window for £5.4million, with the striker going onto score 18 goals in 46 appearances before sealing a move to West Ham 12 months later.

However, his time at West Ham was hampered by an injury suffered after being called up by England, and he eventually retired in late 2009 at the end of 26, since when he has become a regular feature on TV, working as a pundit for several different broadcasters.

Joining from Celtic in 2013 for £5.67million with a prolific goalscoring record, Hooper didn't quite produce the same returns at Carrow Road, scoring 20 goals in 70 games before joining Sheffield Wednesday on loan for the 2015/16 season.

Hooper made that move to Hillsborough permanent the following summer, and remained there until 2019, when he joined Wellington Phoenix in New Zealand. The 32-year-old is still playing now, having signed a one-year deal with Indian Super League side Kerala Blasters earlier this season.

One of those who perhaps did not work quite so well for Norwich is Yanic Wildschut. The winger made just 24 appearances, scoring only three goals for the Canaries after joining from Wigan for £7.38million in 2017.

A sizeable portion of his time with Norwich was spent on loan with Cardiff and Bolton, before he was released by the Canaries in 2019. He has since joined Maccabi Haifa, and has so far scored six goals in 48 appearances in all competitions.

Having joined from Tottenham in 2016, Pritchard reportedly cost Norwich a fee of around £8.46million, despite making jus two appearances for Spurs.

After eight goals in 43 appearances in all competitions over two injury hampered seasons at Carrow Road, Pritchard joined Huddersfield in the summer 2018. Again, injuries have hampered the attacking midfielder's progress, and he has so far made a total of 70 appearances for the Terriers, scoring three goals.

Brady joined Norwich from Hull in the summer of 2015 for a reported £8.91million, and would go on to spend the next two years at Carrow Road, scoring seven goals in  62 appearances.

The winger then went on to join Burnley in January 2017, where he has since been restricted by injuries throughout his time at Turf Moor, where he is still a part of Sean Dyche's squad.

Joining from Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon for £9millio in 2013, van Wolswinkel was one that most certainly did not work out. The striker one league goal in his debut season as Norwich were relegated from the Premier League, and spent the next two seasons out on loan.

He then returned to former club Vitesse in 2016 on a permanent deal, and after one prolific season in Holland, joined Swiss side Basel, where he continues to play now, having scored 35 goals in 94 appearances.

Having moved to Carrow Road in January 2016 from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, Klose has made a big impact for Norwich, helping them to the Championship title in 2019.

Injury hampered the Swiss centre back in the Premier League last season, and the current campaign has seen Klose return to his home country on loan with Basel, for whom he has so far made just a single appearance.

Another played on this list to have been hindered by injuries in recent times, Naismith was brought to Norwich from Everton in January 2016 for £9.9million, but was unable to prevent the Canaries suffering relegation.

Amid those fitness problems, Naismith scored eight goals in 48 appearances for the Canaries, before joining Hearts on loan in January 2018, a deal he extended the following summer, eventually making his move permanent in 2019. The striker is still at Tynecastle now, and has so far scored a total of 24 goals in 71 appearances, while suffering relegation from the Scottish Premiership last season.
