Back in the Premier League, Leeds United have been fishing in a different pond when it comes to transfers.

Leeds’ stint in the EFL lasted 16 years and that meant that the club’s record transfer fee was never likely to be broken.

The fee paid to sign Rio Ferdinand from West Ham United stood for 20 years and was only broken in the summer gone by.

In total, an estimated £65m was spent on new arrivals for Marcelo Bielsa in the Premier League and Leeds’ record signing list now has a very different look to how it might have done a couple of months ago.

We take a look at the EIGHT most expensive purchases Leeds have ever made and what they are up to now…

Fowler arrived at Elland Road from Liverpool in 2001 for a reported fee of £11m.

He was supposed to sign and guide Leeds to the Premier League title, but it wasn’t to be and he was one of the final signings made before Leeds went into financial turmoil.

Nowadays, he's the head-coach of SC East Bengal in the Indian Super League. He's also had a spell in management in Australia.

A year or so before Fowler arrived at Elland Road, Leeds were signing Keane from Inter Milan to add him to a strikeforce including Mark Viduka, Alan Smith, Michael Bridges and Harry Kewell.

Keane cost a reported £12m in total (including his initial loan fee), but never hit the heights expected of him at Elland Road.

In 2020, he's fresh out of a coaching role at Middlesbrough and waiting for his next opportunity. He served as Jonathan Woodgate's assistant in the Championship last season, but both left the club back in the summer.

Koch was signed just a couple of months ago from Freiberg for a reported fee of £13m.

The centre-back has featured in every Premier League game so far this season for Leeds and is also a full German international.

Another recent signing is Costa, who cost Leeds a package of around £16m from Wolves.

He helped the club win promotion to the Premier League last season and is now a part of the squad in the Premier League.

Raphinha is another summer signing, who actually made his full debut for the club on Sunday against Arsenal.

The Brazilian winger came from Rennes and cost Leeds a reported £17m.

Llorente cost Leeds £18m when they moved for him at Real Sociedad.

The centre-back is yet to play a minute of action for the club due to injury, but is a full Spain international.

So, back to the year 2000, where Ferdinand was Leeds’ first real statement signing as they chased the Premier League title.

The centre-back cost Leeds a whopping £18m back then from West Ham, which would have been so much more 20 years down the line.

Right now, the former England centre-back is one of BT Sport's leading pundits and is back covering Leeds games following promotion to the Premier League.

Rodrigo arrived at Leeds this summer from Valencia, costing the club a record £27m.

He’s scored once so far in the Premier League, but has impressed in Bielsa’s attack.
