Derby County will be looking for a pick-up in form before too long in the Sky Bet Championship with them currently in the relegation picture.
The Rams have had a torrid season so far and Phillip Cocu has paid for that with his job.
Another new era is set to dawn at Pride Park, then, whilst new ownership is set to come in, that will likely enhance their spending power.
With that in mind, here are the club’s eight most expensive players – via transfermarkt – and what they are up to now…
8. Robert Earnshaw
Earnshaw spent a short period of time at Derby and it perhaps wasn’t as successful as many would have hoped.
He had better spells at the likes of West Brom and Nottingham Forest during his playing career and he’s now studying to be a UEFA Pro Licence holding coach.
7. Jacob Butterfield
The midfielder played a fair amount for Derby during his four-year spell at the club but also spent time away out on loan.
He played for Sheffield Wednesday and Bradford on a temporary basis whilst on the books of the Rams.
He’s not playing football in Australia, meanwhile, after joining Melbourne Victory after leaving Luton Town.
6. Tom Lawrence
Tom Lawrence remains a Derby County player.
He signed from Leicester City in 2017 after a run of loan spells at various different clubs and appears to have settled nicely with the Rams.
He’s now made over 100 appearances for the club in all competitions.
5. Martyn Waghorn
Similarly, Martyn Waghorn remains a Derby County player.
The striker will be looked to this season to help them out of their current rut with them short of options going forwards.
He’s a player that has real quality at this level and having him missing with injury earlier this season was a real problem for the club.
4. Tom Ince
Tom Ince has played for some big clubs in his career so far and Derby perhaps saw some of the best of what he has shown in his time playing up to now.
The winger joined from Hull City and spent two years at the club, before given an opportunity back in the Premier League with Huddersfield Town.
He’s now with Stoke City.
3. Bradley Johnson
Johnson spent four years at Derby after signing from Norwich City in 2015.
A proven Championship player, he left the Rams in 2019 after a four-year spell at the club.
He signed for fellow second-tier side Blackburn Rovers, where he remains a player at the moment.
2. Krystian Bielik
Derby fans were delighted when they managed to sign Bielik on a long-term deal and he’s certainly a good player that should only get better.
Arsenal developed him after he arrived from Poland but we perhaps saw the best of him initially at Charlton, before the Rams had a look.
They liked what they saw, too, with them signing him in 2019.
1. Matej Vydra
Vydra ended up excelling for Derby after they signed him from Watford in 2016.
He spent a couple of years at Pride Park as the club pushed for the play-offs but he would end up moving to the Premier League before the Rams could.
He joined Burnley in 2018 but it’s perhaps not gone how he would have liked at Turf Moor after really shining towards the end of his Pride Park spell.
