‘What an odd move this was’ – Assessing 26-year-old’s decision to join Sheffield United: Opinion

Conor Washington joined Sheffield United from QPR in the summer as a free agent.

Washington, 26, now finds himself bottom of Chris Wilder’s big pile of strikers, with January additions limiting his game time.

He has scored no league goals so far, and his main appearances have been off the bench.

Will he be regretting his move?

We debate…

Gary Hutchinson

“Yes.

“It looked like a good chance, but he was never a top of the Championship player.

“He should have gone to League One, to a level where he got games and scored goals.

“Instead, he’ll be playing Under 23 football for the rest of the season.”

Jacob Potter

“What an odd move this was.

“Washington was never going to be getting in the squad ahead of Sharp or McGoldrick, and he isn’t good enough for Chris Wilder’s side.

“He was never going to start and I’m not surprised to see him not featuring much.”

Louie Chandler

“Probably.

“I think it was probably worth going, though. He was only going to sit on the bench at QPR anyway.

“Having only signed a short-term deal it was a risk worth taking.”
